Some time ago I wanted to know what kinds of science related locations there are in Second Life. After a bit googling I discovered site called Science-Related Places in Second Life. There are quite many places listed and newest ones are only few days old. So hopefully the list will continue grow
I would recommend checking the list for everybody who are interested in science or who just want to see some neat stuff (granted, neat is always subjective).
List of Science Related Sims in SL
Star Trek Museum Complex
I was exploring grid today and stumbled upon a Star Trek complex. 4 private sims full of Star Trek. There was lot of things to see and try out. Actually, there was so many things that I probably missed most of them
Be sure to click little Spock statue near the starting location. You will receive a notecard with descriptions and landmarks of several locations in the area.
There are locations to learn about science, culture and history of Star Trek. Big Starship is waiting to be explored and one can even take a shuttle to fly between different locations. Some random photos after the break.
Bee Nest (now 1.1)
As mentioned earlier, I did an updated version of the Bee Nest. Basic settings are the same as earlier, but now user has option to set the nest to randomly rez bees. This will make the nest more lively, without using lots of prims, since the bees are temp-rezzed.
I also set up a demo of the Steam Bee Nest in my in-world store at Blorkus. This way you can have a look at it before purchasing.
Update to Steam Bees (now 1.1)
I did some coding and now Steam Bees Nest (http://negationix.wordpress.com/2008/10/21/steam-bees/) can be set to randomly rez bees. Bees are temp rezzed, so they don’t count against your prim count. Updated version will be eventually automatically delivered to each customer, who has version 1 rezzed in-world (the nest checks for updates once every day). Stores and market places will have updated version shortly and new version of the original Bee Nest is in the pipeline.
Steam Bees
- Steam Bees
Steam bees are cousins to regular bees, but instead of pollen and honey, these buzzers run with steam and plasma. Each of them have a little steam engine on their back that emits puffs of smoke as the bee flies around. Rear end of the bee houses tiny plasma engine.
Nest is 4 prims, each bee is 28 prims and temporary rezzing is available for those who don’t want to spend big amount of prims just to see bees to fly around. Bees are peaceful and won’t attack any avatars or other creatures.
If a bug is fixed or a new feature added, customers will receive a free update, thanks to automatic updates.
New Area in Second Life
In posting in the official blog Lindens announced that a new city area has been discovered. In the forums (registration required), there are users discussing about the place. Also some nice screen shots have been posted in the thread. I had a brief fly around the place today and must say that the place looks really nice. Soon there will be auction and people will have opportunity to buy land there. Now it’s the last chance to have a look around, before new buildings are built.
Dragons
Today I saw something really neat in-world, a dragon by Seawolf Monsters. There has been lots of different kinds of dragons in-world, some good and some less good. But these ones are really the best ones I have ever seen. There are loads and loads of options and configuration possibilities and at-least two different forms (full dragon and a anthropomorphic version). The HUD even allows user to save different setups, so it’s easy to switch between different colour schemes.
So, hop on their place at Aggro sim and have a look by yourself.
A blog
So, I finally got around to actually make a Second Life related blog and post some stuff into it. Pretty much everything that I’m currently selling in-world, XStreet SL or onrez are now listed in the blog and even in more or less correct order. Idea is that if I have lots of stuff listed in one place, maybe people will see something that sparks their interest. Also, it’s fun to see how things have evolved over the time. My first product pictures are really bad compared to new ones. It’ll be interesting to see if I still make progress in that area.
In addition of just making this a catalog of my stuff, I’ll try to post now and then about stuff in general. It probably will always be something about Second Life.
Bee Nest
This 3 prim nest is a home for a swarm of friendly bees. They won’t attack avatars and are perfectly safe. Bees are relatively small, but still quite detailed. Each of them is 23 prims.
To make it possible to enjoy watching bees even with low amount of available prims, they can be temp-rezzed. This means that bee will emerge from the nest, fly around for a brief time and then be gone. Multiple temp-rezzed bees can be flying at the same time.
For those with enough of free prims, the nest can spawn non-temporary bees. These bees will fly around indefinitely time.
Bee nest comes with free updates. Everytime there is a new feature added or a bug squished (not a bee though), existing customers will receive new version, free of charge.
