Today it’s winter solstice. Day in the northern hemisphere is shortest in whole year and past polar circle the sun doesn’t rise at all. On the other hand, situation on the southern hemisphere is completely opposite, the day is longest and past polar circle, the sun doesn’t set.
From now on, the days will be getting longer (or shorter if you happen to be on the southern hemisphere), until in half a year the situation has reversed itself. Days in north are long and in south they are short. In halfway to there, there is spring equinox, when day and night are equally long.
What does this have to do with Second Life? Not much, except that my neat little geocentric model shows the situation nicely (two pictures after the break) ;P
If you are living north and dislike darkness, remember that from now on the days will be getting longer and summer getting closer. And if you happen to be at south, now it’s time to enjoy the long days and short nights.
